About CambridgeCambridge is a majestic tree-lined town, in the heart of the Waikato.
Cambridge is a vibrant town, surrounded by lush rural land, but under 2 hours from our largest International Airport in Auckland.
Cambridge’s proximity to airports, the east and west coasts and many of the North Island’s main towns and cities makes it the ideal location for visitors, businesses and the 20,500 residents who call it home. We are also close to three of New Zealand’s largest Tourist attractions – Hamilton Gardens, the Hobbiton Movie set and the Waitomo Caves.
Cambridge’s inland location helps give the town a temperate climate with mild, wet winters and summers that are generally warm and dry. In February we will be at the height of summer, and we will be warm! With average temperatures in the high 20’s (degrees Celsius).
Cambridge is blessed with heritage trees, parks and gardens that provide a stunning palette of colours as the seasons change. We also have two of the country’s most beautiful waterways – the ‘mighty’ Waikato River and Lake Karapiro with swimming, rowing, kayaking, jet boating, skiing, cruising and fishing available to all within minutes of the town centre.
The town is well-suited to those who enjoy a walk or like to get on a bike – either for a gentle ride or to compete against the world’s best cyclists. We are the base for many high-performance sports and athletes – Rowing, Track Cycling, Canoe racing and Triathlon, and the National Velodrome is based here. The Velodrome is a world class facility that has hosted UCI World Cup events, and where our Olympians train. The Velodrome hosts “Have-a-go” sessions so you can book one in during your stay and experience the indoor track for yourself.
Cambridge is also well renowned for its fantastic boutique shopping and award-winning eateries – you will have plenty of options of things to do with family and friends during your visit. For more information on Cambridge, Waipa and the Waikato, visit:
